To new stove owners with little experience of stoves, we offer the following advice to help you get the best out of your stove.
Wood is without doubt the greenest fuel to burn in any stove. To get the most from your wood you need to ensure it is properly seasoned. This will mean buying from a reputable supplier or storing your own cut and split wood for a period of at least 18 months to allow the moisture content to fall to around 20%. Burning unseasoned wood should be a crime, it is bad for your chimney, it will not give out the heat of seasoned wood and you will not get that beautiful clean glass and a truly enjoyable real fire.
We recommend using scrunched up newspaper and kindling wood to light your fire, if using firelighters place this at the back of your stove.
