British Built Stoves Sent to New Afghan National Police Training Centre
Devon based stove manufacturer, Arada, has won a prestigious contract to supply over 150 wood burning stoves to the Afghan National Police (ANP) for their new $106m training centre in the Maydan Wardak province of Afghanistan.
Arada were delighted to learn that they had been recommended to the project procurement company, SpendSmart Group, due to the robust reliability and high level build quality of their stoves.
Arada liaised with SpendSmart to ensure that the installation met the requirements of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, who are leading the project, the requirements of the ANP and the specifications of each building before the order was confirmed.
The new facility will have the capacity to train 3000 students at a time and will become the primary training site for Afghanistan’s national police force. The complex will house over 125 buildings, including barracks, dining facilities, classrooms, health facilities, an auditorium, a gymnasium and numerous support buildings.
The new facility will play a crucial role in the training of the large number of national police required to underpin the work of British and American forces and uphold Afghanistan’s internal security as troops are withdrawn over the coming years.
Arada owner and Chief Executive, John Burgis, says ‘It is a great privilege for us to be playing a part in such a high profile, international project. The winter in Afghanistan can be extremely harsh so the stoves will be in constant use. We are very proud that that our stoves are recognised as being well-built and tough enough to do the job.’
